Contractor Licensing & Registration
Contractors must submit a registration form as well as all required documentation on an annual basis. Please email these forms to buildingpermits@vohe.org.

The turnaround time for permit review depends on the scope of work and complexity of the project.
The Village aims not to exceed 14 days for each review round.
No permits are required for garage sales. Regulations for garage sales can be found in Chapter 8-7-19 of the Municipal Code.

Most residential / commercial improvement building permits are valid for one year from the date of issuance.
A permit will become invalid if substantial work has not started within six months of issuance or if work is not completed within one year.
Permit extension requests must be submitted in writing to the Building Official and justifiable cause must be demonstrated. Permit extensions can be granted for periods of not more than 180 days each. Fees may apply.

A permit is required for all emergency repair work and must be submitted within 24 hours after the work begins.
The property owner is ultimately responsible for ensuring a permit is obtianed before any work begins.
A Plat of Survey is a private document that can be found in closing papers or documents. If you are unable to find the Plat in your closing documents, you may want to check with the bank that holds your mortgage.
The Village may have a copy of your Plat of Survey from previous building permits, however it is not guaranteed to suffice the plat requirement for the permit you are applying for. To find out if the Village has a copy, please submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request.

The village has a franchise agreement with Groot. All commercial, residential, and construction dumpsters must be from Groot.
