Drone Usage
The Hoffman Estates Park District is a separate and distinct governmental agency from the Village of Hoffman Estates. According to the Park District website: "The operation of drones will be prohibited in all parks. If you wish to fly a drone, please visit the Cook County Forest Preserve site on Shoe Factory Road, where flying drones is permitted. Please visit the Hoffman Estates Park District website for additional information."

Park Districts
Parks and recreation services in the Village of Hoffman Estates are provided by separate park districts. The park districts are separate governmental agencies from the Village of Hoffman Estates.
The following park districts serve the Village of Hoffman Estates:
Walking Trails and Bike Paths
The Village of Hoffman Estates proudly boasts more than 26 miles of on-street and off-street bike paths that connect to its business parks, commercial corridors, and residential neighborhoods. The Forest Preserve District of Cook County serves the Village, and has two major forest preserves locally with walking trails and bike paths.

Drone Usage
The Village of Hoffman Estates does not currently have laws regulating the use of drones. However, the Federal Aviation Administration requires that your drone be registered (see below) and other governmental entities have adopted regulations affecting the use of drones and we urge you to become familiar with those regulations depending upon where you plan to operate your drone.
Please Note:
The Hoffman Estates Park District , a separate governmental entity, has banned the use of drones in all Hoffman Estates Park District parks starting January 1, 2017. For more information about their rules and regulations please visit the Park Rules page of the Park District website.
Before you fly outside you must:

Register your UAS if it weighs more than 0.55 pounds and less than 55 pounds

Label your UAS with your registration number

Read and understand all safety guidelines
You must be:

13 years of age or older (if the owner is less than 13 years of age, a person 13 years of age or older must register the small unmanned aircraft)

A U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident*
* Visiting foreign nationals must register their UAS upon arrival in the United States (online registration serves as a certificate of ownership).
* You don't need permission from the FAA to fly your drone (or Unmanned Aircraft System) for fun or recreation, but you must always fly safely.
