Solar in Hoffman Estates

The Village of Hoffman Estates is a SolSmart Bronze community. SolSmart is a national designation program that recognizes communities for reducing local barriers to solar energy adoption.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative, SolSmart helps local governments make it easier and more affordable for homes and businesses to go solar.

Permit Information

Permits are required for the installation and maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. Please visit the Village's Building Permits page for more information.

If not hiring a Contractor, work must be done by a qualified individual as defined by the Illinois Commerce Commission.

Solar Information Session

On Saturday, April 20, 2024, the Sustainability Commission hosted a solar information session with the Citizens Utility Board (CUB). The presentation provides information on the benefits of solar energy and incentives available to consumers, among other considerations.
