The Cultural Awareness Commission develops services that will assist new residents of the community meeting practical problems and adjusting to the changing circumstances. Commission activities are intended to decrease the sense of isolation and loneliness that may affect all residents who are new to the community by enriching the social and intellectual life of all residents through educational and social programs. The commission organizes the interests of the ethnically diverse community to improve the climate of living and provide information and referrals and makes recommendations regarding problems and issues affecting a culturally diverse community.


The Cultural Awareness Commission hosts the following annual events:

• Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast
• Black History Month Celebration
• Unity Day Festival of Cultures
• Hispanic Heritage Day Fiesta
