HEFD Hosts Fire Academy for People of All Abilities
In what is thought to be the first of its kind in the country, Hoffman Estates Fire is hosting local special needs residents at our first Fully Involved Fire Academy.
HEFD partnered with Northwest Special Recreation Association in the project and will share the experience with 22 special needs participants over a six week period starting September 3rd.
Attendees will learn about fire safety, force open doors, complete a search and obstacle course, ride in the rigs, go up in the ladder truck, do a live extrication demonstration and hit targets with the fire hose among other things.
We are excited to have such a good reception to the program and mentor our new friends in the fire service.
