Dementia Awareness Week | May 18–24, 2026
Approximately 7.2 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia. Dementia Awareness Week focuses on raising awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting supportive, inclusive communities where individuals can thrive. Early diagnosis and access to support can improve quality of life and help reduce isolation.
In 2025, the Village of Hoffman Estates was designated a Dementia Friendly Community. In recognition of this week, Health and Human Services will offer free memory screenings for adults beginning in May, providing an important resource for community members and their families.
