Keep hydrants clear of snow

After a heavy snowfall, fire hydrants can become buried by shoveling, snowblowers, and snowplows. A fire doubles in size every 30 to 60 seconds. Every second firefighters spend shoveling out a fire hydrant allows the fire to grow larger.

Help the Fire Department locate hydrants quickly and efficiently by clearing the snow three feet around the hydrants, along with a three-foot path from the road to the hydrant. There are 3,061 fire hydrants in Hoffman Estates and it is critical for each one to be clear for protecting people and property.

Together, we can all make a difference by digging out around our fire hydrants!
