Water Meter Replacement Program
Starting in February 2020, the Village will begin a village-wide water meter replacement program that requires all residential and commercial water meters to be replaced. This project is necessary as a majority of existing Village water meters have exceeded their life expectancy. The Village has contracted with Siemens Industry, Inc. and Professional Meters, Inc. (PMI) to conduct this replacement program.
New meters will allow the Village to use modern meter reading technology that no longer requires drive-by meter readings. Installation of an automated meter reading system, combined with new ultrasonic meters, will greatly improve the Village’s water distribution system. New meters are highly accurate for the entirety of their 20-year life expectancy. The new meters have the ability to provide on-demand readings, as well as leak alerts, which makes early identification of leaks much more likely than with traditional meters and a drive-by reading system.

Hoffman Estates water customers will receive a series of postcards with information about scheduling this mandatory meter replacement. Postcards will be sent to residences on different dates ranging from mid-February through the fall. Meters will be installed systematically throughout the Village. You will receive a postcard as installers move into your area.
No Siemens/PMI installer will visit your home without an appointment. All verified installers will have a visible installer ID with the project logo also on their vehicle and uniform. If someone approaches your home without an appointment or refuses to show official identification, please call 9-1-1 to report.
New water meters are installed at no cost to residents. An adult, 18 years or older, must be home throughout your scheduled appointment, which should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete. Residents should attempt to locate their water meter and ensure the meter is accessible prior to their scheduled appointment. Water meters are typically located in basements, utility closets, etc. A small number of residences have vault/pit meters that are located outside of the home. The process for scheduling will be identical regardless of the location of your water meter.
