Multi-Family Inspections

The Village of Hoffman Estates Code Enforcement Division conducts inspections of all multiple family complexes in the Village on an annual basis. Field inspections include the exterior of the building and the surrounding grounds, as well as the common interior areas of the structures. Fire Department life/safety inspections are performed at the same time. The purpose of this program is to ensure that safe and sanitary living conditions are provided to the occupants of the multiple family dwellings.

The buildings that are subject to inspections under this program are those where common interior areas exist. These areas usually fall under the jurisdiction of the owner for the property and are usually maintained by a hired management group. The property manager is considered the legal agent/representative of the owner, who assumes all responsibility of correcting all violations the code official brings to his or her attention. This process is mandatory to obtain a Village multi family license.
