Order of Protection

If you’re in danger or being harassed by someone close to you, our social workers can help you apply for an Order of Protection (OOP). We can help you complete the Petition for OOP, guide you through the Emergency Order request if needed, and ensure all details are clear and accurate. Our social workers will help you understand the hearing process, explain what you need and connect you with legal resources if needed.

Do I Qualify for an Order of Protection?

You may qualify if you’ve experienced abuse, threats or harassment from:

  • A current or former spouse or partner
  • Someone you live with or used to live with
  • A parent, child, or family member
  • A caregiver
  • Someone you share a child with

Examples of abuse that may qualify include:

  • Physical harm or threats of violence
  • Controlling behaviors or intimidation
  • Repeated unwanted contact (texts, calls, showing up uninvited)
  • Preventing you from leaving or getting help
  • Threats to harm your children, pets or property

If you’re unsure whether your experience qualifies, our social workers can help you explore your options confidentially. All forms are free, and the social workers are there to help make the process easier and safer for you.

In Illinois, individuals can petition the Court for three common protective orders: Order of Protection, Stalking No Contact Order and Civil No Contact Order.
