Emergency Assistance Services
Emergency Assistance
Emergency assistance programs play a vital role in delivering limited support to individuals and families residing in Hoffman Estates facing unexpected crises—such as health emergencies, economic hardship, or housing instability.
Salvation Army Emergency Assistance Program
Health and Human Services proudly serves as a volunteer service extension site for the Salvation Army Emergency Assistance Program, offering limited financial support to Hoffman Estates residents experiencing urgent need. This assistance may include help with rent, utility bills, or other critical expenses resulting from unforeseen emergencies. Each client meets with HHS staff for approximately 30 minutes to assess eligibility and explore additional services or referrals.
Nicor Gas Sharing Program
HHS serves as a designated application site for the Nicor Gas Sharing Program, which offers financial assistance to eligible individuals facing difficulty paying their natural gas bills. Support is available to those who meet specific income and program criteria, helping to ensure continued access to essential utilities during times of financial hardship.
Self-Help Fund
The Hoffman Estates Self-Help Fund is a vital community resource designed to provide temporary relief to Hoffman Estates residents facing emergency situations. It offers financial assistance to help cover essential expenses such as housing, utilities, food, and medical bills—supporting individuals during times of unexpected hardship.
This fund is sustained through generous contributions from local government, charitable organizations like the annual golf outing, and community partners including the Lions Club and individual residents. Together, these donors ensure that those in need receive timely support to regain stability and move forward.
At its core, the Self-Help Fund reflects the spirit of Hoffman Estates—neighbors helping neighbors, and a community coming together to care for its own.
