Help the Fire department “fill their boots” to fight muscular dystrophy
For over 65 years, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has led the fight to free individuals – and the families who love them – from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases.
Through the MDA “Fill the Boot” program, firefighters help the MDA by going above and beyond the call of duty. Each year, more than 100,000 firefighters across the country hit the streets asking citizens in their communities to make a donation to the MDA, helping them fill their boots with contributions.
The Hoffman Estates Fire Department and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 2061 union have supported the MDA Fill the Boot program for the last 25 years. Members host Fill the Boot events several times throughout the year, raising approximately $6,000 annually. This money goes directly to local families, primarily within Hoffman Estates, who are impacted by muscular dystrophy.
This year, there are three Fill the Boot drives from 8 a.m. to noon in Hoffman Estates:
• Friday, Aug. 2, at Barrington and Golf roads
• Friday, Aug. 30, at Higgins and Roselle roads
• Friday, Sept. 6, at Barrington and Higgins roads
