Police: Community Resource Center

The Hoffman Estates Police Department and the Community Resource Center is asking anyone who is interested in donating infant/toddler diapers, non-perishable canned food items, and unopened boxes of rice, pasta, and cereal to please drop off the items at the Hoffman Estates Police Department, 1200 N Gannon Drive. The Community Resource Center will use these items to distribute to needy families who use the center. Please contact Officer Tony Caceres of the Hoffman Estates Police Department at 847-781-2880 if you have any questions.

The Hoffman Estates Police Department has created its first "Community Resource Center". The Center is located at the Salem Hill/Interlude Apartment, 700 Salem dr. Apt. 120.  This Center will address quality of life issues for Salem Hill/Interlude Apartment residents. The Center which will be open in September 2000 with approximate hours of 9:00AM to 9:00PM, will provide services such as immunizations, parenting classes, English as a second language classes, "Promise to Play" (children education) and other social services.

October 21 2000 marked the grand opening of the Community Resource Center located at 700 Salem dr. The center has been open since early September for the residents of Interlude/ Salem Hill only, providing educational, health & wellness programs and recreational opportunities. The CRC has a number of activities already in progress which include ESL (English as a second language) for adults, family literacy programs where residents are picked up by bus from the center and taken to Schaumburg library, parenting workshops, immunizations, and preschool play groups.

The grand opening had informational booths set up with representatives from the SOS, temporary job placement agency, Hoffman Estates Health and Human Services, Hoffman Estates Police and Fire Departments and a magician to entertain both young and old. The Hoffman Estates Citizen Police academy alumni also lent a helping hand by taking fingerprints and photographs of children for parents wanting identification information should their child ever become lost. In addition to the above events, a surprise visit from our k-9 dog Casper helped to captivate the residents. There were free mini pumpkins for young children to decorate along with refreshments and cookies.

In all, more then 70 residents took part in the grand opening, which we find very encouraging. This pilot program has will be evaluated after 6 months time to see if improvements can be made.

If anyone needs more information or would like to donate toys/books, please call Ofc. Tony Caceres at 847-882-1818.
