Police Department: Employment

Applications for Probationary Police Officer will be available for pickup on Monday March 31, 2008 and will be due back to us completed by Friday April 18, 2008.

Hoffman Estates Police Department will begin testing for new Police Officers on Saturday May 17, 2008 with a written test followed by a physical agility test.

There is a $20.00 application fee due at application pickup (cash only).

The Hoffman Estates Police Department tests for new Police Officers approximately once every 2 years. After qualifications are met and the successful completion of a series of tests, an eligibility list is made. This list is then used to hire new Police Officers. New Police Officers must then successfully pass a three month Police Academy and spend approximately three months with a Field Training Officer.

Below are some of the qualifications required to be hired as a Hoffman Estates Police Officer:

· Citizen of the United States
· High school graduate or equivalent.
· Eyesight shall be at least 20/20 corrected and may not be afflicted with color blindness or any other eye abnormalities at the time of offer of employment
· Must have attained their 21st birthday and be under the age of 35, at the time of the last date for filing applications. 
· Must have a valid driver’s license
· No Felony convictions

Orientation
Written Test
1.5 mile run
Physical Ability Test (*not the POWER test)
Polygraph Test
Interview with the Fire and Police Board
Background Check
Psychological Test
Physical Exam

* Power test must be taken and passed to attend the Police Academy
