Community Overview

Hoffman Estates is about 20 square miles, with a population approaching 55,000. St. Alexius Medical CenterThe ethnic mix is diverse, with 21% Asian, 10% Hispanic, and 4% African American. It is the North American or Midwest headquarters to such corporate giants as Sears Holdings, AT&T, GE Capital Services, Siemens Medical Systems, Claire's Accessories, Automatic Data Processing, DMG/Morei Seiki, Big Kaiser Precision Tooling Inc. and more.  A major regional hospital, St. Alexius Medical Center, is located in the community. Situated in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, the Village has an ample, well-educated labor supply.

A recent trend is the emergence of the Poplar Creek at 59/90 Entertainment District, offering more "play" to residents and regional consumers. The 59/90 District, located just west of IL-59 (Sutton Road) and north of I-90, includes the Sears Centre Arena, Cabela's (outfitter store), Saddle Room Restaurant/OTB (opening soon), and other restaurants and retail entertainment.

Lifestyle

The community is a model for the "work-play-live" generation. Hoffman Estates is home to several award-winning schools, a Northern Illinois University satellite campus, and close proximity to two regional community colleges.

Housing prices ranging from affordable to high-end, with many styles, sizes, and locations to choose from.  Several housing communities specifically for seniors, ranging from single-family to multi-family and active lifestyle to individual assisted care.

Location & TransportationMap

Located 25 miles northwest of Downtown Chicago and 12 miles from O'Hare International Airport, Hoffman Estates is accessible to the entire Chicagoland region. The Village is a suburb of Chicago, and is a part of the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area. 

Hoffman Estates enjoys access to major regional roadways, including the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90), as well as state routes 58 (Golf Road), 59 (Sutton Road), 62 (Algonquin Road), 68 (Roselle Road), and 72 (Higgins Road). The Village of Hoffman Estates is in close proximity to several major airports:

§   O’Hare International Airport (14 mi.)

§   Schaumburg Regional Airport (5 mi.)

§   DuPage Regional Airport (12 mi.)

§   Chicago Executive Airport (15 mi.)

Metra rail stations are located nearby on Springinsguth Road (in Schaumburg) and Northwest Highway (in Palatine).

The Sears Centre Arena is an 11,000 seat entertainment venue offering concerts, sporting events, and family entertainment.  Cabela's, the World's Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing, and outdoor gear opened in 2007 in the Poplar Creek at 59/90 Entertainment District. This 185,000-square-foot showroom is an educational and entertainment attraction featuring a décor of museum quality animal displays, huge aquariums, and trophy animals interacting in realistic recreation of their natural habitats.

Shopping centers throughout the Village, including grocery and major retailers. Relatively new shopping centers on Route 59 are Poplar Creek Crossing (anchored by Target) and PraCabela'sirie Stone Crossing (anchored by Sports Authority).  These centers offer a variety of dining options.  Two major and recently remodeled centers are located along Roselle Road, where shoppers can find groceries, furniture, clothing, specialty items and dining options.

Three 18-hole golf courses are located in the Village.  Also present are indoor and outdoor miniature golf courses, laser tag, bowling, game rooms, and other places to have fun.

Economy

Economy PhotoOver 16,000 people are employed by the more than 700 businesses operating in Hoffman Estates. The employees are drawn from the pool of 2.8 million workers who reside within a 60-minute commute of the Village. The Village unemployment rate, 8.2% (IL Dept. of Employment Security - 2009), is below state and national averages.

The Village of Hoffman Estates is a full-service municipal community, providing police, fire, public works, and social services. The Village's ability to provide such services is supported by sound financial planning, as evidenced by the community's bond ratings of Aa2 (Moody's) and AA+ (S&P).
