The Employee Referral Program seeks to broaden the Village’s exposure in the labor market, increase its visibility as a competitive employer and promote retention by attracting applicants committed to public service seeking stable career employment. 

Program Description

The Employee Referral Program provides Village employees with an opportunity for a cash bonus for anyone who refers an applicant for a vacancy.  The referral must be made to the Human Resources Management Department within the prescribed timeframe, and if that applicant is subsequently hired to fill the vacancy, the referring Village employee who is still working for the Village is eligible for a referral bonus.  For a full-time position, the bonus shall be $100 after the Referral starts work and an additional $150 when the Referral successfully completes six (6) months of employment.  For part-time positions working a schedule of at least 20 hours per week, the bonus shall be $50 after the Referral starts work, and an additional $75 when the Referral successfully completes six (6) months of employment.  


Notifying Employees:
  Whenever a full- or part-time job opening occurs that qualifies for the Referral Program (excludes sworn Police and Fire positions, seasonal or temporary workers, and part-time employees working a schedule of less than 20 hours per week), the Human Resources Management Department will notify employees of the vacancy via email.  Notices will include the job title; scheduled work days/hours; skills, experience and education desired or needed; pay rate/range; deadline date for applications; and timeframe of eligibility for the Referral Program. 
   
REFERRAL PROCESS

                               Who can be referred:  Employees may refer to the Human Resources Management
                               Department   any applicant for original appointment who, in their opinion, meets the requirements
                               set forth in the job posting notice and will serve the public.

                              What constitutes a “Referral”:  A “Referral” is an applicant who:

             is referred by a Village of Hoffman Estates employee on a timely submitted
             Referral   Form for a posted vacant position that qualifies for the Referral Program,

         

            submits an application to the Human Resources Management Department for a posted
            vacant position for which a Village employee referred them, and

         

            is interviewed, hired and begins to work in the position for which they were referred by 
            a Village employee.

         

        How to become eligible for the referral “bonus”:  Employees may submit an “Employee Referral Form,” beginning the day following the date of posting.   For postings with a definite deadline date, the referral period will remain open until 5pm of the deadline date listed on the posting.    Forms can be submitted until 5:00 p.m. of the business day that is 14 days after the date of posting (first business day thereafter if the 14th day is not a business day) for job postings that are “open until filled.”  

        The “Employee Referral Form” can be obtained on this web page or from the Human Resources Management Department.  The “Employee Referral Form” may be submitted to the Human Resources Management Department in person or by mail/email during the referral time period.   

        No preferential treatment is given:  The Human Resources Management Department will at no time treat an applicant referred by an employee any differently than any other applicant. 

        Notification of a successful referral:  When an employee qualifies for the bonus under the terms of this program, the Human Resources Management Department will notify him/her through email or inter-office mail that their referral is selected for the vacancy and they are being awarded a bonus.
