Safe ice skating tips

Post Date:12/28/2017 3:32 PM

When the weather turns cold, ice skating can be a fun outdoor activity for the whole family. But make sure to be safe!

Ice skating is permitted in select Hoffman Estates Park District parks from sunrise to sunset, following an open/close flag system. According to the Park District website, flags are posted at all approved ice skating ponds (South Ridge, Fabbrini and Evergreen). If a RED flag is posted, skating is NOT SAFE and therefore not permitted at this time. The weather may be cold, but this does not mean the ice is thick enough to support your weight! If a YELLOW flag is posted, skating is allowed at your own risk. Skating on lakes that are not included in the flag system is not considered safe and is not permitted.
