Fire Chief Jorian to retire after 35 years
After more than 35 years with the Hoffman Estates Fire Department, Fire Chief Jeffrey Jorian will be retiring effective November 21, 2017.
Chief Jorian was sworn in as the Village’s Fire Chief in September 2013. As Chief, he has made significant contributions to the Village, promoting the innovative use of fire equipment and staff to gain operational efficiencies. He has also been a valued member of the Village’s executive management team.
As stated by Mayor Bill McLeod, “Chief Jorian has done a wonderful job for the Village over the last 35 years, and he will be missed by residents and staff alike. He has provided solid leadership for our department throughout his long career.”
Chief Jorian was hired by the Village as a firefighter in September 1982 and moved steadily through the department’s ranks. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1990, assuming responsibility for leadership of the department’s Dive Rescue Team and serving as a member of the Hazardous Materials Response Team. As Lieutenant, Jorian also managed the department’s transition to Northwest Central Dispatch. In 1999, Jorian was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief and served as the department’s first full-time training officer. In his role as Assistant Chief, Jorian worked to further regional cooperation, coordinating the first multi-agency training between Hoffman Estates, Streamwood, Schaumburg and Palatine Rural Fire Departments.
Jorian was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief in 2008, and then assumed the role of Acting Fire Chief in 2013 with the retirement of then-Chief Gorvett. Jorian earned his Chief Fire Officer certification from the Illinois State Fire Marshal before his official installation as Chief in 2013.
Village Manager Jim Norris stated, “The Fire Department is highly regarded among our residents, businesses and neighboring communities thanks to Chief Jorian’s steadfast leadership and attention to community engagement. We wish him the best of luck in his retirement.”
Mr. Norris has named Deputy Chief Patrick Fortunato as the Village’s Acting Fire Chief, effective at 5 p.m. on November 21.
