D211 Black History Essay Contest
The Village’s Cultural Awareness Commission is seeking essay submissions from Illinois High School District 211 students in celebration of Black History Month, which takes place each February. The winning essays will be selected by a panel of volunteer judges. The authors of the top five (5) scoring essays (one from each D211 high school represented) will receive a $200 cash award, a certificate of accomplishment, and recognition in the Village newsletter. Winning essays will also be published online following the completion of the contest. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
D211 students are invited to submit an essay between 500 and 750 words on the following topic:
The Journey Continues…
Black history continues to be made every day. These barrier-breaking men, women and children often go unrecognized or unheralded. Why is that? Furthermore, how can you be engaged in change? Describe how your impact on the Black community and/or culture has affected change/improvement for the benefit of ALL persons as the journey continues.
Submissions will be accepted beginning November 15, 2017. Submission deadline is midnight Central Standard Time on January 15, 2018. Please email your submission in PDF format to email@example.com.
