Protect yourself against flu this season
See flu clinic information:
The Hoffman Estates Department of Health and Human Services will offer the Quadrivalent vaccine for adults and children six months and older, which protects against four strains of flu. A high-dose flu vaccine will be available for seniors age 65 and older. All communities are welcome at the Hoffman Estates clinics.
Adult flu shots will be offered at the Hoffman Estates Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road on Monday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.by appointment only. Additional adult clinic dates are also available. Call 847-781-4850 today to reserve your shot. The adult flu vaccine costs $25 (cash or check only; Medicare Part B accepted).
Children’s flu shots will be offered at the monthly Children’s Clinic on Monday, Oct. 3, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the Hoffman Estates Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road (Main entrance). The cost is $10, or free with Medicaid.* Health and Human Services will not carry nasal mist flu vaccine this season as new studies have shown lower effectiveness than the flu shot. Call 847-781-4850 today to reserve your shot.
As of October 1, 2016, children with AllKids are no longer eligible to receive vaccines through the CDC’s Vaccines for Children program. Families with All Kids insurance should refer to the Illinois Department of Public Health website at www.dph.illinois.gov for more information and talk with their doctor about where to get vaccines.
For those who cannot receive a flu vaccine, such as infants younger than 6 months old, it is important that all close contacts receive a vaccine to help protect them from the flu. Studies have shown that getting the flu vaccine during pregnancy can protect the baby after birth for several months.
