Get to know Fountain Crossing Shopping Center
Located along Barrington Road just north of both I-90 and Lakewood Boulevard, Fountain Crossing features several quality mom-and-pop businesses. Built in the mid-2000s before the recession, the 33,000-square-foot complex is the outlot center, along with Jerseys Pizza And Grill and Core Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, to a potentially larger development.
The center "without": Fountain Crossing was meant to stand as an entryway for a much larger development with Meijer as the anchor. Much of the infrastructure was put in place, such as roads, street lights and sewers, by Meijer, but due to several circumstances, the retailer opted not to build a new store on the land. For every year since 2005, the Village has met with various members of the Meijer team to get a status update on the site. Unfortunately, for several years, Meijer has stated that they have no intention of building, but also have no intention of selling the property. Therefore, the Village continues to work with surrounding property owners to spur development in hopes of changing the mind of the Michigan-based retailer.
Who's there: Even without Meijer, there are several great reasons to visit Fountain Crossing. With Chicagoland favorites like Apple Villa Pancake House, Frank's Chicago Shrimp House, Jerseys Pizza And Grill and Hunan Beijing, these local restaurants deserve a taste. New service businesses, like The Toothery dentist office and Hair Spa D'Sheri, also offer great reasons to check out this small but vibrant center.
