Newspapers covering Hoffman Estates:

Village and Public Works Union come to contract agreement

Post Date:12/09/2015 3:33 PM

The Village of Hoffman Estates and Teamsters Local 700 are pleased to announce the settlement of the most recent collective bargaining agreement. The current contract expires on Dec. 31, 2015. The new agreement provides for the term, wages and health insurance contributions effective from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2019.

Hoffman Estates Mayor William D. McLeod stated, “The Village takes pride in the outstanding services provided to our residents and community by our Public Works Department. This settlement is a fair deal for both parties and is just one example of the solid relationship between the Union and the Village.”

The contract provides for a four year term with wage increases of 2 percent each year in 2016, 2017 and 2018. For the fourth year of the agreement, 2019, the contract will be re-opened to negotiate only wages and adjustments to health insurance benefits. There are also two new position classifications, a new two-tier salary schedule for all employees hired after January 1, 2016, incremental benefit enhancements and incremental increases to employee contributions to health insurance premiums.

Additionally, this agreement includes language to re-open the agreement if the State of Illinois significantly reduces the Village’s share of revenue or if the Village’s healthcare plans approach the U.S. Affordable Care Act excise tax cost threshold.

Union President Jay Evans said, “Our members felt like there was mutual respect on both sides of the table throughout the negotiation and feel that ultimately, we ratified a fair deal.” Village Manager James H. Norris commented, “I truly appreciate the diligence of both negotiating teams in working towards an amicable positive solution which benefits the entire community.”
