Black History Day Celebration Event - 2/5/2018
Resident recycling event: Saturday, August 9
The Village of Hoffman Estates is partnering with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) to host a one-day recycling event. This free collection takes place on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Susan H. Kenley-Rupnow Public Works Center, 2305 Pembroke Avenue.
SWANCC is sponsoring a combined document destruction and electronics recycling drive. There is no cost to attend, but the event is for residents of SWANCC-member communities only, and proof of residency is required. Simply drive to the Public Works Center, and workers will unload the recyclables from your car. All paper is shredded on site by Accurate Document Destruction, a division of Groot Industries, Inc., and all electronics will be recycled by Com2 Recycling Solutions. For more information about these companies, visit www.shredd.net or www.com2recycling.com.
Typical documents that can be shredded include medical records, bank statements and retired tax forms. Staples and paper clips are acceptable, but binders should be removed. Residents will be limited to six grocery-size paper bags or file-size boxes of documents. Do not bring paper in plastic bags.
Under Illinois’ Electronics Products Recycling and Reuse Act (SB2313), the following electronic items will be accepted:
• Computers and computer equipment/components
• Printers and scanners
• Cell phones and PDAs
• Fax machines
• MP3 players
• TVs and VHS and DVD players
• DVRs, cable and satellite receivers, and converter boxes
• Video game consoles
Materials from businesses, institutions or schools will not be accepted.
In addition to document destruction and electronics recycling, the Village will also be accepting these items for recycling:
• Expired drugs/sharps
• Fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) light bulbs
• Batteries (not automotive)
• Printer cartridges
• Latex paint (small charge)
